Refugees

People who have fled their country because of a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of their race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group, and who cannot or do not want to return (according to Article 1 of the 1951 United Nations Convention on Refugees).

Asylum seekers: People awaiting a decision on applications for refugee status.

Internally displaced: People who are displaced within their own country and to whom the UNHCR extends protection or assistance.
