Admission to the United Nations

This variable gives the membership and the date of admission to the UN General Assembly. The UN comprised 181 members on May 5, 1993, 183 members on June 14, 1993, 184 members on August 6, 1993, and 185 members on January 01, 1995. As of January 01, 2003, membership is 191, out of 192 sovereign countries. The Vatican is now the only sovereign country which is not a member of the UN, though it participates de facto and financially as an observer to certain of its activities.
