Legislature: Legislature may be unicameral or bicameral. This variable gives the name of the legislature, the number of houses of the legislature, the name of the houses of the legislature, where there is more than one, and the number of seats (members) of the legislature, or of each house. Names of legislatures and their houses have been recorded in the original national language, when possible. Elections: This variable gives the date of the most recent legislative elections. Where the legislature comprises more than one house, the name of the house for which these elections were held is indicated. Where relevant, comments are included on the non-democratic character of certain elections (single-party, dominant party, communism, military coertion, monarchic coertion, dictatorship...). When elections (democratic or not) did not take place in the last 5 years, this is indicated by "na".
