1091: Annexed to Hungary. 1918: Collapse of the Ottoman Empire. December 1, 1918: Becomes a founding member of Yugoslavia. December 21, 1990: New constitution adopted. May 19, 1991: Referendum on independence. June 25, 1991: Declaration of independence. October 8, 1991: Independence is reasserted. December 23, 1991: New currency introduced (Croatian dinar), replacing the Yugoslavian dinar. January 15, 1992: The EEC recognizes Croatia's independence from Yugoslavia.
