Constitution

This variable gives the date when the current constitution of the country came into effect, not counting amendments which may have been made to it. The term NEW refers to a new constitution replacing a previous one. The term REFERENDUM indicates that the constitution was promulgated following a constitutional referendum. The term AMENDED indicates that changes have been made to the constitution since it was originally promulgated. Where available, the dates of amendments are indicated. The term PROVISIONAL indicates that the constitution is currently under review.
